Huang Longqi, President of LG Display: In the era of "everything is displayed", China will become the world's largest OLED TV market
As an important section of the 13th China (Hefei) International Household Appliances and Consumer Electronics Expo jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Anhui Provincial People's Government The first World Display Industry Conference hosted by the Chemical Industry Department and China Electronics and Information Industry Development Research Institute opened in Hefei on November 22. LG Display President Huang Longqi attended the main forum and delivered a speech. Huang Longqi said that we are in the "Display of things" era driven by technologies such as AI, 5G, big data, and the Internet of Things. In particular, OLED devices with diverse forms, excellent image quality and innovative technologies will Pick up the girders. China has the world's largest TV market and will become one of the most important markets for OLEDs in the future.
OLED becomes an important driving force for future display industry innovation
At present, mankind has ushered in the fourth industrial revolution, and emerging core information technologies are rapidly advancing the development of this era. "In this era of technological change, display technology has played an important role-that is, an output interface that echoes human developed vision." Huang Longqi said.
Huang Longqi refers to the era we are in as the "Display Of Things" era, which means that the screen will become an important carrier for future information transmission, and equipment with diverse forms, excellent picture quality and technological innovation will stir up the beam. For many years, LCD technology has "dominated" the TV industry, but over time, LCD technology innovation has gradually peaked, and it has been unable to support the product's premium. "The future of display technology should be given to OLED." Huang Longqi said that OLED, as a new generation of display technology, has gradually been favored and recognized by consumers. Different from the passive light emission of LCD, OLED is self-luminous and does not require a backlight. It can achieve independent light emission in pixel units. In addition, it also has the advantages of wide viewing angle, high contrast, low power consumption, high response speed, etc., making TV picture quality more real and full. In order to better meet the needs of the future market, LG Display has been developing larger OLED panels, a full range of product lines (4K to 8K, 48 "to 88"), and more advanced display technologies. Enterprises in all aspects of the chain work together to apply OLEDs to TVs, mobile phones, wearable devices, VR and other fields, bringing consumers a "everything is displayed" experience.
China is the key to the success of the OLED business
Since 2017, OLED has re-ignited the growth momentum of global TV sales. According to IHS Markit data, global OLED TV shipments in the first half of 2019 were 1.2 million units, an increase of 21% year-on-year.
As more complete machine manufacturers adopt OLED, the OLED camp is gradually expanding. The penetration rate of OLED TVs in the global high-end market continues to rise, especially in Europe, Japan, the United States and other countries and regions. China has the world's largest TV market, and the Chinese market has a high level of acceptance of new technologies. It is rapidly catching up with this trend and will become the world's largest OLED TV market in the future.
"As one of the most important suppliers of large-screen OLED panels in the world," said Huang Longqi, "LG Display faces many challenges like friends in the industry, such as LCD panel competition, price factors, how to attract consumers to buy OLED products, etc. . This means that display equipment manufacturers must maintain constant development and innovation in order to stand out in the fierce market competition. "
Since 2015, LG Display is committed to driving the development of OLED TVs in China. In August of this year, LG Display adopted a new production line with cutting-edge technology. Its Guangzhou 8.5 generation OLED production line has been put into mass production, which has increased the number of OLED panels and is expected to reach 60,000. "By then, the production capacity of large-sized OLED panels in China and South Korea will reach 130,000 pieces per month, which will ease the difficulty of OLED panel supply, which will help increase China's OLED TV market share." Huang Longqi said.
It can be said that the hugely growing OLED market is coming. Huang Longqi pointed out that in order to promote the common development of the display industry ecological chain, LG Display will work with other panel manufacturers, complete machine manufacturers, equipment material parts manufacturers, and production / scientific / research institutions to achieve win-win cooperation and jointly promote the high-performance display industry Quality development.
In Huang Longqi's view, China is the key to the success of the OLED business. He hopes that 22% of the overall sales of OLED TVs will be in China. In the future, LG Display will continue to work closely with China to open a new chapter for China's display era with higher quality technological innovation and production experience.
