Ouyang Zhongcan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences: 5G brings huge display industry opportunities, will you still worry about overcapacity?
As an important section of the 13th China (Hefei) International Household Appliances and Consumer Electronics Expo jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Anhui Provincial People's Government The first World Display Industry Conference hosted by the Chemical Industry Department and China Electronics and Information Industry Development Research Institute opened in Hefei on November 22. Ouyang Zhongcan, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the main forum and delivered a speech. Ouyang Zhongcan said that many people are worried about excess display capacity. In fact, the display industry has bottomed out this year and will achieve 5% growth next year. It will continue to grow in the next few decades because 5G is coming and 5G will give the display industry Bring huge development opportunities
Ouyang Zhongcan first introduced the situation of China's panel industry in his speech. As of 2018, China has 50 panel production lines, the global display industry scale is more than 140 billion US dollars, and the Chinese production display scale is 355.3 billion yuan, accounting for 40% of the global area. AMOLED has grown at a tenfold rate in the past two years. China shows that it is developing so fast, will there be an excess? In fact, after market analysis, it has bottomed out this year, and will achieve 5% growth next year, and it will maintain such growth in the next few decades. Why will it grow and why there is such an opportunity? This is the new era brought by the 5G era. opportunity.
Ouyang Zhongcan further said, why can 5G bring hope to the display industry? Everyone knows that communication is a huge evolution from 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G to 5G. The representative application of 4G is video, the representative is Jobs, smart phone, and 5G is the Internet of Everything. 5G is an epoch-making symbol. At the display forum held in Beijing on October 22, a guest said that the emergence of 5G has given new development to the entire human society, which is called the 5.0 era. The era of hunting in human society is 1.0, the era of farming is 2.0, the emergence of steam engines is 3.0, and 4G comes out as the 4.0 era. Industrial information is related to 4G. After 5G came out, we entered the Internet of Everything, which is called the 5.0 social era. This is a new opportunity that will bring new influence to our country, to Hefei, and to display emerging industries.
South Korea was the first to implement 5G communications in the world. The first important thing South Korea did with 5G was ultra high definition, and the second was AR / VR. Yesterday Hefei Horizon ’s silicon-based OLED production line was put into operation on a large scale. The important directions for Horizon ’s silicon-based OLED applications are AR and VR. 5G will greatly promote AR / VR. At the display conference held in Shanghai this year, the on-site doctors implemented telemedicine to Dongfang Hospital with good results. In the past, we often traveled a lot and met many doctors in the car. Doctors in Beijing went to other places to help with the operation. We called it "Little Li Fei Dao." After 5G comes out, this phenomenon can be overcome because doctors can perform remote smart surgery because of ultra-high-definition video.
Flexible display will have great development in the 5G era. In the 5G era, there are wearables, bracelets, and many and many smart terminals. This is a very big industrial opportunity. Huawei released MateX at the World Communications Conference this year, redefining mobile communications. Behind this redefinition of Huawei is the support of BOE Flexible Display. Flexibility combines mobile phones and tablets into one. When a family is watching TV together, young people do not have to compete with the middle-aged and elderly people and can watch personal TV on their own. Flexibility can provide opportunities for many industries.
At present, China's investment in hard-screen displays is more than 700 billion, and its investment in flexible displays exceeds 400-500 billion. Isn't this investment worth it? Will this be overcapacity? Of course, there will be no excess, because 5G brings special development opportunities to the ultra-high-definition display industry. Why should I add the word "special"? Because of the issuance of 5G licenses on June 6 this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television issued an ultra-high-definition action plan in March this year. There are reasons to keep the industry from becoming glut. Why? Because Ultra High Definition has four characteristics: The first is that the range of colors that can be expressed is greatly expanded compared to 2k, which can be expressed as "naturally visible colors". The second is that 4K, 8K refresh is four times that of 2K, which allows many high-speed things to be expressed. The third is that after 4K and 8K, the gray scale will change. From 2K 16 million gray scales, it will be expanded to about 1 billion grays, and the changes in color and brightness become smooth. The expression range of the fourth brightness is greatly expanded, which is closer to the actual brightness expression. In fact, the impact of display and sports on economic development is great. One example is Japan. In 1964, Japan held the Tokyo Olympics, and the construction of the Shinkansen economy was greatly accelerated. In 2020, Japan will hold the Olympics again. This will be for Japan. An opportunity for economic development. And China will also host the Winter Olympics in 2022. China will perform 4K and 8K live broadcasts and broadcasts, which will have many opportunities for the display industry.
At present, there are 200 million 2K TVs in China. If several of our display production lines are started at the same time, we can provide a maximum of 40 million TVs. There is still a lot of room to upgrade 200 million TVs to 4K \ 8K. Not long ago, BOE launched a superimposed screen display, and Hisense launched a superimposed screen TV in July this year, and many new technological innovations took place. Recently, everyone sees that TV is not just a TV company, including Xiaomi and Huawei. Smart screens are equivalent to large-sized mobile phones. The 5G era brings great opportunities to the display industry. Beyond imagination, are you still worried about the excess of the display industry?
